Explaining Wound Care at Home

Dr. Seema Kumar, Medical Director

Chronic non-healing wounds are wounds that have not healed normally for at least a month. In the United States, 3% of the population over 65 years old and around 2% of the overall population are affected by chronic wounds. These kinds of wounds require frequent and precise care, as, left untreated or mistreated, they can lead to infection, sepsis, need for amputation, and death.

Most chronic non-healing wounds occur in people living with diabetes, vascular conditions, high blood pressure, chronic kidney disease, or some other conditions. These wounds benefit from early detection and ongoing monitoring and medical care.  During the pandemic, access to the aforementioned level of in person care dwindled. Obstacles  to in-person care drove innovation to integrate  newer models of care such as telemedicine with traditional in person visits. This combined approach can help reduce barriers to care by making it more convenient and accessible and can increase patient compliance. That’s where Mytonomy comes in.

With Mytonomy’s digital patient education solution, care providers can assign their patients videos explaining wound self care,  what to expect with their treatment plan and the importance of adherence,  and what signs to watch for when in person care is needed. This is all delivered in a modern platform with short form videos that are engaging, accessible on any device and patient centric.

With a wide array of videos including “Understanding Different Wound Dressings,” “Tips on Cleaning a Wound,” and “What is a Wound Care Center,” Mytonomy tackles all stages of wound care, educating patients on how to care for their wounds, and what steps to take if something seems off. Embedded survey capability can assess comprehension and provide virtual teach back.

In addition, Mytonomy’s viewership analytics reveal which videos were watched and for how long helping  the care team better understand where the patient’s attention is focused.

Delays in care for chronic wounds leads to morbidity for patients and costs to society. Mytonomy’s content can make the difference between a condition worsened and a condition treated. It arms patients with the comfort of knowing resources are available and the knowledge to make an informed decision about how to move forward in their at-home wound care. Explore Mytonomy to support patients at all points of the wound care cycle.
