President and CEO of Carilion Clinic

Nancy Howell Agee is the President and CEO of Carilion Clinic, a $2 billion not-for-profit, integrated health care system headquartered in Roanoke, Virginia; serving over 1 million people in Virginia and West Virginia.  Carilion Clinic is organized as a large physician group with more than 1000 employed physicians and 7 hospitals ranging from a large, tertiary/quaternary medical center, Level 1 Trauma Center and teaching hospital (third largest in Virginia), to a Children's Hospital to midsized community hospitals to small rural or critical access hospitals as well as multiple business lines such as Home Health, Imaging Services, Pharmacies and free-standing surgical clinics.  Ms. Agee was the Executive Vice President and Chief Operating Officer before becoming CEO. During her tenure as COO, she co-led Carilion's transformation from a collection of hospitals to a
fully integrated, patient centered, physician-led organization.  The reorganization included a public/private partnership with Virginia Tech to create an allopathic medical school and a research institute.

 
Ms. Agee is a nationally recognized leader in healthcare, immediate past chair of the American Hospital Association (a membership organization representing the nation's 5000 hospitals). She was named one of the Top 100 Most Influential People in Healthcare by Modern Healthcare for the past three years and one of the Top 25 Woman in Healthcare by the same national magazine. Ms. Agee is a former member of The Board of Commissioners for the Joint Commission (international hospital accreditation organization) and past chair of the Virginia Hospital and Healthcare Association and the Virginia Center for Health Innovation. Ms. Agee was named Virginia Business Person of the year in 2017 (cover story) and has been on the list of most influential persons in Virginia for eight years. Ms. Agee serves on several boards including American National Bank & Trust, a public utility (Roanoke Gas Company, NASDAQ A&B) and Healthcare Realty (NYSE). She, also, serves on the Virginia Foundation for Independent Colleges, The Virginia Business Council and the Virginia Tech Foundation. Ms. Agee is a former member of Taubman Museum of Arts, Director Emeritus of the Mill Mountain Theatre Board, and Radford University.

Ms. Agee has received many awards over her career including the MS Silver Hope Award, the Paladin Award for Quality, and the Gail L. Warden Leadership Excellence Award in 2018. Ms. Agee received her undergraduate degree from the University of Virginia and her graduate degree from Emory University; postgraduate studies at the Kellogg School of Business, Northwestern University. She received honorary Doctorate of Humane Letters, from both Roanoke College and Jefferson College of Health Sciences in 2015.
