Sarah: Hey guys, what’s up? I’m Sarah.
Jackie: And I’m Jackie, and today we wanted to tell you about some college application advice we have. One of the things we found out was that actually teachers weren’t very helpful to us personally, because they have a lot of students they have to help.
Sarah: So they can only edit on a certain level, to a certain degree. So when you have students peer-editing, you get so much more depth and the review is just awesome.
Jackie: But really for us, it’s personal friends who actually know your writing style and it’s much more helpful than if you actually just have classmates do it, especially since a lot of them just don’t care because they’re worried about their own. So we created a google doc, which was really helpful because you could see their comments on it and it wasn’t something that you had to go back and reprint out over and over again.
Sarah: Yeah, if you just get a group of maybe 3 or 4 solid friends who you know care about you and you all work together on this google doc, everyone posts up their common app essay and you just edit each other’s essays. It’s an amazing time where you don't have to be there at the same time, but you just sort of work together on your papers to make it perfect, like down to the punctuation.
Jackie: And it’s very easy because you don’t actually have to be together, you can just check on later and say, “Oh, here’s my deadline for this date – I need this done by here – can you check this for me?” Plus, if your friends know about scholarships and stuff, they can share it very easily and just post it on the google doc and say, “Here’s what’s required, you know, maybe check it out. I think you’ll be really good at this.” And so, you know, just share.
Sarah: Hope that helps!
