Pat: Hi there, my name is Pat Thatch and I graduated from Mastery in the
year 2011. I currently attend Penn State University, main campus and I'm
here to talk to you about scholarships.
Now, I attend Penn State on a full scholarship called the Lenfest
Scholarship and I received that scholarship through the help of my college
advisor. There are plenty of scholarships online and everywhere if you look
for it. There's definitely websites that can help you out, such as
Fastweb.com, cappex.com, there's Scholarship Match.
There's tons of it, you just have to look for it. There's always free money
out there in the world, that's for you to use just for your education. So
if you take the time to actually search up scholarships, you going to
definitely have enough money to attend and not worry about taking out too
Interviewer: Another question for you, when you're doing a scholarship,
does it require a lot of work? What do most scholarships require? Is it an
essay, is it background information on you, a resume? Can you talk about
Pat: Some scholarships require an essay, and that's pretty common that you
have to write an essay, and you have to answer a question and maybe 250
word essay question. There also are other ones where they ask you to send
in your resume, or your academic... There are also some scholarships who
ask you to send in a transcript and it's academically.
There are definitely ones that are miscellaneous. They're kind of
different. There's one for left handed people. There's definitely some that
are just "out there". There's definitely weird ones, as in I found one
that is "What is your worst scar story?" So, people with the worst scars,
take a picture of it, and you send it in, and you can get a scholarship off
So, if you just look around, you can definitely find it. There's not just
academic scholarships, there's also just social scholarships as in you're
on a sports team, you can get a scholarship for that. You just did
something for the community, as in community service, you can definitely
get something for that too. Look around, it's definitely there.
