Hi, my name is Will Beckman, and I go to Duke University. In this video, I’m going to be talking about what you should do after you get accepted into college.
If you were like me, you got accepted into college many months after you visited them so at least for me, it wasn’t very fresh in my mind what the campuses were like since it had been so much time since I had went.
So what I would recommend doing is you go visit those colleges again that you’re actually considering going to, now that you’ve heard back from them and know which ones want you. I would say go visit them and like I said in another video, really try to make those visits equal.
So, don’t go during a schools final period, and if you do definitely take that into account, know that a school will be very much dead if you go during their finals period. Not a lot of people will be wearing smiles, not a lot of people will be very warm and friendly, not a lot of people will be outside enjoying the nice weather, because it is usually the case that finals happen during the sunniest days of the semester. Just take these things into account when you go to visit schools.
First of all, you should visit schools again once you get into them, and also kind of make a pros/cons list of each school and take into account how much you’re willing to pay for school, and know that just because a school is more expensive than another it’s not necessarily better, and you won’t necessarily get a better education at a private one that’s a lot more than a public one.
First and foremost, I would say go visit those schools again and really try to equalize the playing field, and if there’s something that would make a school less appealing to you take that into account, like finals week, that’s a big one. I know I visited schools during their finals week, and it wasn’t until their finals were over and I went for a fourth and fifth visit to Duke, that I really understood that people at Duke actually do have fun and enjoy the nice weather they have down time there, and actually smile.
Luckily, I visited Duke after finals had ended, but before that I wasn’t going to go, so don’t make that same mistake and just be smart about when you visit colleges and take these things into account.
